‘Castle’ Canceled by ABC
Castle won’t be returning for a ninth season.
A source has confirmed to TV Insider that the long-running drama will end with its upcoming eighth season finale. The series (and ABC) had undergone scrutiny over the decision to let go of series regulars Stana Katic (Beckett) and Tamala Jones (Lanie) were let go, in part to accommodate budget cuts.
In recent weeks, most of the remaining cast had signed on to return for a planned ninth season. The now-series finale will air on Monday, May 16th.

While I am a bit surprised about this since they have made such a big deal about letting Katic go and re signing everyone else, I am glad in the end especially for Castle and Beckett fans. The show wouldn't have worked without her. And while its safe to say they WILL be getting their happy ending now, it is however unfortunate the mess that the show has become with all of this. Will anyone ever say this was the way they envisioned Castle going out? Doubt it.

Agreed. Fillion always said he was glad Firefly ended after one season because it didn't have time to drag on until it sucked, which is unfortunately exactly what happened here. I understand him not wanting to let go of a successful thing, but this show was on its last legs. It should've been retired gracefully three seasons ago.

I'm glad they decided to cancel it instead of continue the show without Beckett. Let's hope it ends well now.

Good decision. Castle without Beckett was a stupid decision. The fact that Castle has been past its sell-by date for at least two seasons.

I was sad to hear about Agent Carter, but this news almost makes up for it. This show, and Castle himself, were right up my alley. When they split them up, it became unwatchable. And now that it's back together - those quirky episodes I liked are every week, and they don't work! I feel the heavy hands of Nathan, mucking things up. The show derailed and lost its magic.

I am not happy with this cancellation of the show and two most viable and strong running characters let go from the show!
What we're they thinking - network and Show bosses! I just hope that Castle's novels will continue to show up in bookstores and more.
Without Beckett and Lanie, there's no chemistry to the show and I'm sure fans would agree! I hope they'll record consider and renewing the show after all!!

I've been a fan for the 8 years and when I heard Stana and Tamala would not be back, the first think I thought, show is dead without Stana. I'm glad they will end on the 16th, hopefully it will be a good ending. Thanks Andrew and Terri for creating the best show on tv and for the love of these two characters. Thanks to all the Castle staff, especially Stana and Nathan!

Well, they did film 2 endings to accommodate either scenario- season or series finale- so at least it won't go out on a cliffhanger like some shows, but agreed- it probably won't be as satisfying as shows that 100% know they're going to be done a season or half a season in advance.

Really? I'm a bit surprised. I realize many fans would rather the show end rather than go on without the female lead, but I wonder if they're going to get a satisfactory finale.

It looks like they will. I read elsewhere that two season endings were filmed---one as a series finale and one if the series was picked up for another season.
