Fans of the riveting Netflix series Narcos should take note of this 10-part Spanish miniseries, which may become a new addiction. The show focuses on illegal drugs being trafficked into Spain (and Europe as a whole) from Latin America in the 1980s. Specifically, it’s about a violent network of cocaine importers led by an unlikely criminal: fisherman Sito Miñanco (Javier Rey, above, with Jana Pérez) of the scenic coastal town Galicia, who builds an enormous enterprise around the lucrative narcotic. On his trail is a tenacious police officer (Tristán Ulloa) determined to take him down.

Ten-hut! Meet the Marching Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman University — the talented marching band that has performed during NFL games and was featured in the 2002 movie Drumline. The highly skilled young musicians, also known as The Pride, are profiled in a 12-part series of documentary shorts that demonstrate the persistence and dedication it takes to become part of this revered 300-member squad. From the start, it’s clear that nothing comes easy, and the competition is fierce and ruthless (heartbreaking too, as promising candidates are unexpectedly cut). And there’s no break once someone gets picked to step up. Under the strict guidance of band director Donovan Wells, members must memorize grueling routines to entertain thousands of revved-up football fans. But it’s all worth it for the big show.

Ultimate Beastmaster Season 3

Ultimate Beastmaster: Survival of the Fittest
Friday, Aug. 31
Get ready to go into Beast mode! Season 3 of the ultra-tough global endurance competition (executive produced by Sylvester Stallone) premieres with nine new episodes and more than 100 contestants looking for glory. These top athletes from around the world — the countries represented include the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, France, Italy, South Korea and Australia — try their luck and test their upper-body strength at what might be the world’s toughest obstacle course, affectionately named the Beast. With each bone-crushing level, low scorers are eliminated and high scorers get closer to victory.

For viewers, the fun is not only in watching the adrenaline-fueled competitors. Each country in the game has its own hosts (the series has various versions around the world) who provide color commentary and a lot of smack talk. Heading up the U.S. home team are MMA fighter CM Punk and footballer Tiki Barber; foreign stars include singer Dannii Minogue (Kylie’s sister, Australia) and actor Gilles Marini (France).

Each episode’s champion competes in the season finale for the chance to be crowned Ultimate Beastmaster and get a cash prize. Hopefully enough to pay for the Epsom salts needed to soak those sore muscles.

LA CASA DE LAS FLORES
Season 1, Available now
Dirt? This uproarious black comedy from Mexico has a garden full of it and then some. Telenovela superstar Verónica Castro leads the cast (Aislinn Derbez and Norma Angelica Rodriguez Diaz) as a florist who learns about her husband’s years-long affair after his mistress hangs herself — right in her flower shop. Sure, that may sound dark, and it is, but this comedy actually falls more on the crazy side. Soon, other family secrets start sprouting like weeds, including how the shop shares a name with a local cabaret (not a coincidence). Adding to the laughfest’s drama: The mistress’s children move in and begin delivering their own bouquets of scandals, secrets and twists.
