Gabrielle Union has scored a pilot production commitment from NBC to star in and executive produce a Bad Boys TV spinoff series.

The Being Mary Jane star is no stranger to the franchise. She played Special Agent Syd Burnett in the 2003 film, Bad Boys II, starring Will Smith (Mike) and Martin Lawrence (Marcus). The new TV series will follow Burnett has she makes the move from Miami to Los Angeles to join the LAPD as a detective. Burnett will clash with her new partner, Nancy McKenna, over policing style and Burnett’s suspicious past.

Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced both Bad Boys movies, will executive produce the TV series. The spinoff is currently being written by Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier, who previously worked on The Blacklist.

Union took to Instagram to celebrate the news. She wrote, “She’s back 👀”
