THE GOLDBERGS - ABC's "The Goldbergs" stars Jeff Garlin as Murray Goldberg, Wendi McLendon-Covey as Beverly Goldberg, George Segal as Pops Solomon, Troy Gentile as Barry Goldberg, Hayley Orrantia as Erica Goldberg and Sean Giambrone as Adam Goldberg. Keith David

The Goldbergs feels the need… the need for Keith David.

David, most recently seen in Season 6 of Community, will guest star on an upcoming episode of The Goldbergs as Captain Donald Wallace, a no-nonsense head of the high school’s Junior ROTC. But Capt. Wallace finds himself on a highway to the danger zone when he meets Barry Goldberg, a misinformed new recruit who has an unhealthy obsession with the film Top Gun.

David was also just tapped to star in the OWN drama Greenleaf, playing the charismatic and manipulative leader of a Memphis megachurch. David’s other recent credits include Big Time in Hollywood, FL., and Enlisted, in which he played another military man, Sgt. Major Donald Cody.

The actor has played military-related roles throughout his career, including draftee “King” in 1986’s Platoon (coincidentally, the same year Top Gun was released). David, a highly sought-after voice-over actor and narrator, is also known for Crash, The Bible, ER and more.

The Goldbergs returns Wednesday night for the second episode of Season 3 at 8:30/7:30c. In the episode, “A Chorus Lie,” Adam–now in his awkward puberty phase–is forced to lip sync, a la Milli Vanilli, when he’s given the lead role in the musical “A Chorus Line.”
