Even as people are suffering through, and bracing for, the incoming Hurricane Irma, the Houston area is still recovering from Hurricane Harvey. Harvey left death and devastation in its wake among the human population there, and it also disrupted and endangered the domestic animals and wildlife of the region, as seen in viral photos like the images of a determined dog, a frightened hawk and one pretty annoyed-looking cat.

Animal Planet’s new special Surviving Harvey: Animals After the Storm, premiering Saturday, chronicles the heroic efforts of rescuers and volunteers who have lent helping hands to such animals displaced by the massive storm. The program will spotlight daring rescues, dramatic reunions and inspiring adoptions.

“We are pleased to bring the stories from Hurricane Harvey that profile the incredible efforts being made on behalf of the animals in harms way,” said Patrice Andrews, general manager of Animal Planet. “We hope our special helps to also promote continued contributions to the organizations working tirelessly to rescue and shelter the animals.”

An Animal Planet release says that the network hopes this special will also inspire viewers to support the efforts of the non-profit organization Austin Pets Alive, which has already evacuated hundreds of animals to safety.
