What’s Worth Watching: SNL’s Spoonful of Laughs
Saturday Night Live, “Reese Witherspoon/Florence + the Machine” (Saturday, May 9, 11:30/10:30c, NBC)
As Saturday Night Live nears the end of its record-breaking 40th season, tonight’s penultimate episode features the overdue return of actress Reese Witherspoon to the hallowed halls of New York City’s Studio 8H. It’s been 14 years since Witherspoon last hosted on September 29, 2001, which was both the Season 27 premiere and the poignant first episode after the attacks of September 11. Witherspoon has gone on to be one of the most successful actresses in Hollywood, winning an Oscar for her role as June Carter Cash in Walk the Line and being nominated for last year’s Wild. Tonight, she’s promoting her new comedy Hot Pursuit and flexing her funny bone. Florence Welch and her indie rock group Florence + the Machine will be making their third appearance on the late night show to celebrate their new album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful. Live from New York, it’s a night of girl power!
