Fresh Off the Boat, “So Chineez” (Tuesday, April 21, 8/7c, ABC)

They say all good things must come to an end, and tonight, ABC’s freshman comedy Fresh Off the Boat concludes its critically acclaimed first season with an episode that highlights its strongest assets. Since the Huang family moved to Orlando, matriarch Jessica (Constance Wu, who deserves every award imaginable for her performance) has feared that they all have lost their Chinese identity. Tonight, when her husband Louis (Randall Park) attempts to assimilate to his new surroundings by joining a country club, Jessica quickly vetoes that plan. And when son Eddie (Hudson Yang) is assigned a World Day project, Jessica insists he must focus on China. Fresh Off the Boat‘s fate is still very much up in the air and a renewal from ABC is pending. It’s one of this season’s most promising series that is too hilarious and too important for us to lose.
