As Shots Fired closes its run, the season-long cases that Department of Justice investigator Ashe Akino (Sanaa Lathan, above) and special prosecutor Preston Terry (Stephan James) pursued will be resolved: What led to Deputy Beck (Mack Wilds) fatally shooting the unarmed Jesse Carr (Jacob Leinbach), and who killed Joey Campbell (Kelvin Harrison Jr.)?

Preston presents his cases for both crimes to the grand jury, but “will anyone be held accountable for the killings?” teases executive producer Reggie Rock Bythewood. And if the outcome isn’t what people are expecting, “Will the community of Gate Station find a way to heal?” Though the series has always touched on powerful themes, the resolution “will be our most emotional hour,” vows Bythewood, who cowrote and directed the episode. “We are excited by the conversations it will spark.”
