The Last Man on Earth, “Dunk the Skunk/Some Friggin’ Fat Guy” (Sunday, March 22, 9/8c, Fox)

The premise of the new Fox series was simple: Will Forte stars as Phil Miller, the last man on earth. There were always questions about how a half hour comedy could sustain with just one man, but with Forte at the helm, the pilot proved to be both groundbreaking and unpredictable. As the weeks have gone on, Phil has discovered he is not, in fact, the last man on earth.

First there was controlling Carol (Kristen Schaal), and while on paper the two individuals were polar opposites, they decided to wed in order to start repopulating the world. Shortly after their marriage, the new couple encountered Melissa (January Jones), an attractive woman who quickly catches Phil’s eye. Slowly but surely, the show is adding more bodies to morph itself into something of an ensemble comedy. So who is next? Fox previously announced both Cleopatra Coleman and Mel Rodriguez were slated to appear, and we’d be shocked if we didn’t see at least one of them during tonight’s two-episode block. Suddenly, things aren’t looking so lonely for our last man. But we still miss the beard.
