‘Newlyweds’ Sneak Peek: James & Jeanie’s At-Home Honeymoon Is Interrupted by Heartbreak

Newlyweds is exploring the concept of expanded and blended families as James (Tim Daly) and Jeanie (Téa Leoni) contend with enjoying their early married days and facing the day-to-day struggles that come with parenting in TV Insider’s exclusive first look at the November 6 episode, “We’ll Never Have Paris.”

As the title reveals, James and Jeanie are unable to jetset on a faraway honeymoon, so they settle for a home-set mini-moon with European flair, but it’s quickly interrupted when they realize they can’t get a moment alone, especially with Jeanie’s kids, Poppy (Emma Meisel) and Lolo (Ignacio Diaz-Silverio), walking into their makeshift Parisian picnic.

However, the comedy doesn’t necessarily come from the interruption, but rather from Poppy’s emotional reaction to a recent breakup, which leaves her speaking in a language that only Lolo and Jeanie seem to understand. Thankfully, James is getting to learn more with Lolo’s help.

In the exclusive sneak peek clip above, Poppy speaks gibberish through tears as Jeanie embraces her and Lolo looks on distraughtly. James couldn’t look more confused by the scene unfolding before him, though.

“What is going on with Poppy?” James asks, turning to Lolo for some much-needed answers.

“She said Lucas broke up with her again. He texted her that he needed space, but really he just doesn’t wanna be tied down before his trip to Lake Havasu,” Lolo explains.

“You got all that from that?” James asks in wonder.

“I speak Poppy heartbreak,” Lolo confirms, clueing James into a secret language that he’ll need to catch up on in order to connect with the family.

Meanwhile, Jeanie tries to offer some comforting words to her daughter about the on-again-off-again nature of her relationship with this so-called Lucas. But something about this breakup is different for Poppy, leading to another spouting of gibberish.

See the hilarious scene unfold above, and tune in to find out if James can catch up on learning Poppy’s heartbreak language before the episode is through when Newlyweds airs on NBC.

Newlyweds, Season 1, Fridays, 8:30/7:30c, NBC
