Martha Stewart — who has a net worth estimated at $400 million — posted a photo of herself dressed up like a hungry person in need of help. Then, either Stewart or someone in her camp apparently thought better of the idea and removed the photo from Instagram.

Stewart included the photo in a Halloween-related Instagram slideshow promoting a candle line she sells on QVC, but the photo was later deleted from the slideshow, according to TMZ. As of writing, the photo still appears on Stewart’s verified Facebook page.

In the image, the lifestyle maven is dressed in ripped jeans and a tattered sweater, has smudges of what looks like dirt on her face, and holds a clipboard with a handwritten message reading, “I AM HUNGRY. HELP ME!!”

The r/popculturechat Reddit community is one of the subreddits on which the image surfaced.

“I can say, without a doubt, 100%, that someone with access to Martha’s personal Instagram account posted this photo,” the Reddit user who shared the pic on r/popculturechat wrote. “As to whether the photo is AI generated, or whether she was ‘hacked,’ I cannot say. But this photo was posted to her account.”

Whether or not Stewart was hacked, commenters expressed dismay but not shock that the former Martha Stewart Living host might dress up such a way.

“Gas is $4.50 a gallon… Americans are struggling financially,” one Reddit user wrote. “This might end her career.”

“Sadly not surprising,” someone else wrote. “She’s been rich for a very long time and is so out of touch with the real world.”

Another commenter remembered noticing that Stewart “seems to have a coldness to her” as the lifestyle maven hosted the reality competition The Apprentice: Martha Stewart. “She has an air about her, and it’s not kind,” that commenter wrote.

“She’s certainly changed the narrative successfully, but having grown up during her peak, I would not be remotely surprised if this were real,” someone else replied.
