A man who attended President Donald Trump‘s rally in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on Thursday (October 29) said he was escorted out of the event after his live interview on Fox News went viral.
The man, identified as Tom Hoyle, was thrust into the spotlight when Fox News correspondent Lucas Tomlinson pulled him aside for an interview ahead of the president’s speech. Tomlinson introduced Hoyle and asked him what brought him to the rally.
“Well, in the late seventies, I was a little too young to get involved and go to South America for the Jonestown Massacre, but this is as close as I’ll ever get. So, that’s why I’m here,” said Holye, who was sporting a bushy beard, baseball cap, and a shirt with the logo for the metal band Death.
“Wait, the Jonestown Massacre?” Tomlinson responded, seemingly confused by Hoyle’s answer.
Fox: Why are you here this morning?
Trump rally attendee: Well, in the late 70s, I was a little too young to go to South America for the Jonestown Massacre. But this is as close as I’ll ever get, so that’s why I’m here. There’s nothing like seeing a cult right up front. https://t.co/wGMf2GTV4E

“That’s right. Nothing like seeing a cult right up front, man,” Hoyle replied.
“All right. So, maybe, maybe this is not a Trump supporter,” Tomlinson said with an awkward laugh before moving on to a more MAGA-friendly man in attendance.
The clip soon went viral across social media, and The Handbasket’s Marisa Kabas later tracked down Hoyle for an interview. Hoyle, who co-owns MadPark Designs, a custom printing company in Charlotte, said the rally organizers invited him and his business partner to the event.
“Well, they broke the cardinal rule with MadPark Designs. They solicited us through our phone, and we despise that,” Hoyle stated. “Whether it’s a bank or a company or a politician, we despise that. So we always look at ways we can turn the tables and make their day a little less smooth.”
Hoyle said he registered with his actual name and number because he “didn’t want there to be any doubt that they invited me and I told them who I was.” Despite this, however, he was escorted out of the venue once his Fox News interview went viral.
“A few minutes later, the Secret Service came up and said they wanted to talk to me,” Hoyle revealed. He said they didn’t immediately identify themselves as Secret Service, so he initially refused to go with them.
He continued, “Then the guy said he’s with Secret Service, and I said, ‘Oh, is this about the concession stand?’ And he said, ‘What’d you do at the concession stand?’ I said ‘Nothing, but it was closed super early and I’m starving.’ And uh, he didn’t like that. And then they walked me out.”
As for why Fox News picked him out to interview, Hoyle theorized, “I think because there’s a certain stereotype of white guys with some sort of facial hair and a ball cap on, and I fell into that. They don’t understand that I’m what you call a daywalker. I look like you, but I’m not like you. I’m the vampire during the day—come talk to me and watch yourself get bitten.”
He also said that he’s “hated Donald Trump since 1989,” noting his disgust for how the president treated the Central Park Five, the five Black and Latino teenagers who were wrongfully convicted of the rape and assault of a female jogger in New York City. At the time, Trump took out full-page ads in four major NYC newspapers with the headline, “Bring back the death penalty. Bring back our police.”
“I already knew I didn’t like him because of watching him on David Letterman, who I was a huge fan of growing up,” Hoyle shared. “I already knew I didn’t like him, but when the Central Park Five stuff happened, I decided then, ‘you’re dead to me,’ and hopefully to everybody else.”
