‘Abbott Elementary’: Janine & Gregory’s Romance Takes a Major Turn in Halloween Episode

Abbott Elementary‘s latest episode, “Halloween Party,” not only celebrated the spooky holiday, but also marked a milestone in Janine (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory’s (Tyler James Williams) relationship. Warning: Spoilers for Abbott Elementary Season 6 Episode 4 ahead!

As usual, the staff of the titular school was decked out in their best Halloween looks, with many channeling their inner cartoon; whether it was Gregory and Jacob’s (Chris Perfetti) Hey Arnold! getups, Melissa’s (Lisa Ann Walter) Toy Story–themed couple’s costume, or Janine’s Susie Carmichael from Rugrats, there was more than enough festive spirit to go around.

But as the teachers planned to attend Ava’s (Janelle James) secret Halloween party after school, Gregory snuck off to go ring shopping and pick up the perfect piece for his love. The problem? The saleswoman (played by Edi Patterson) wasn’t able to read the room when it came to what Gregory wanted from the experience, and a series of missteps led to a prolonged experience at the shop.

Fresh off a true crime kick with Jacob, Janine began to show concern over Gregory’s late arrival, and when she called to check in after she noticed his location had been stuck in one spot, she overheard some choice words from the saleswoman, which led her to believe Gregory might be cheating.

When Gregory finally escaped the store and arrived at the party, he was accused of both murder and infidelity. Gregory managed to talk Janine down from the metaphorical ledge as he asked her to trust him and said that he couldn’t say where he’d been. He also clarified things with Jacob so that the surprise wouldn’t be ruined.

Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for the secret to get out because Janine approached Ava with a very wrong assumption, as she believed Gregory was going to get them a puppy. But Ava believed she had learned about the impending proposal, and so she let the secret slip.

Needless to say, Janine learned the truth about Gregory’s secret side quest and looked rather thrilled about the prospect. The only question that looms is when Gregory will pop the big question.
