- Ritson plays Oscar van Rhijn in The Gilded Age, returning November 1.
The Gilded Age‘s Blake Ritson had a one-episode run in AMC‘s Interview With the Vampire Season 2. He tells TV Insider that he wants to come back to the vampire drama, revealing his idea for how it could happen.
Both shows are returning for fourth seasons, with The Gilded Age Season 4 premiering this Sunday, November 1, on HBO and Interview With the Vampire Season 4, titled Queen of the Damned, currently in development. TV Insider caught up with Ritson on The Gilded Age Season 4 premiere red carpet on Monday, October 26. Ritson plays Oscar van Rhijn in the HBO period drama, a gay man who was last seen staging an advantageous marriage to the widowed Enid Winterton (Kelley Curran).
Ritson plays Morgan, an English war correspondent for the Daily Herald in Interview With the Vampire Season 2 Episode 1, which premiered on May 12, 2024. In the episode, Morgan (a character from Anne Rice‘s book of the same name) met his lover, Emilia (Stephanie Hayes), while stuck in Romania after the end of World War II. Morgan and Emilia met Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Claudia (Delainey Hayles) while they were searching for more vampires in Europe after their attempted murder of Lestat (Sam Reid).
Ritson says it was “good fun” and that he “loved shooting” that episode. We asked what he thought happened to Morgan after the events of the premiere, which left Morgan alive but Emilia dead. Ritson thinks Morgan would come back with a vengeance.
“I wanted him to come back as a vampire, like payback’s a b*tch. That was my thing,” Ritson tells TV Insider. “I’d like him to come back. I think he’s got unfinished business.”

“I think it would be [interesting],” he says, “because there was like a weird spark between them [Morgan and Louis]. And I was thinking I’d like to see what happens if he comes back.”
Ritson tells us he’s game to return in Queen of the Damned, if the vampire Morgan is of interest to the series.
Morgan had no idea that Louis and Claudia were night-crawlers when they met. Suspicious details about their lives and travels made Morgan suspect that Louis was a military deserter. He warned him that returning to accept whatever punishment awaited him was a better fate than anything he would find in Romania.
Emilia’s village was highly superstitious about vampires and stayed locked inside at night to protect themselves from the creatures, but Emilia was attacked by a vampire when she was hunting game, and Morgan begged for Louis’ help as the villagers planned to cut off Emilia’s head to prevent a vampiric transformation.
Louis and Claudia didn’t help, Emilia was killed, and we never saw Morgan again. Perhaps the experience made Morgan question not only if vampires are real, but also if he had already met some…
The Gilded Age, Season 4 Premiere, Sunday, November 1, 9/8c, HBO
