  • Find out when she’ll appear.

Nine seasons later, Alexandra Cabot is back!

Stephanie March is returning to Law & Order: SVU and reprising the role she played in nearly 100 episodes (this will be her 98th), TV Insider has learned. She’ll appear in the season’s ninth episode. Additional details, including what brings her back, are being kept under wraps.

She debuted in the Season 2 premiere, exited in Season 5, then returned in Seasons 6, 10, 11, and 13, and was last seen on the long-running drama in Season 19’s “Sunk Cost Fallacy.” (She also starred in Dick Wolf‘s Conviction as Cabot in 2006.)

When March first exited the series, Cabot faked her death to enter protective custody, briefly resurfaced to testify in a trial about her now-attempted murder, then had her identity changed by U.S. Marshals. She did return to being an ADA with SVU, then the International Criminal Court. But in her last appearance, she was helping victims of abuse. Hargitay helped make that last appearance happen.

“I hadn’t read the script or seen the episode when she texted me and said, ‘Would you be interested in coming back?’ and I said, ‘Why not?'” March told Today in 2018. “There’s no downside to play a role I’ve always loved.”

This news comes just after the third episode aired and ahead of the fifth being the series’ 600th episode, featuring the return of Christopher Meloni as Detective Elliot Stabler, Captain Olivia Benson’s (Mariska Hargitay) former partner.

“It’s going to be the show. It’s going to be our characters and going back to the heart of the show and what it is,” showrunner Michele Fazekas told us of the milestone.

Law & Order: SVU Season 28, in addition to Hargitay, stars Ice T, Peter Scanavino, Kelli Giddish, Kevin Kane, Aimé Donna Kelly, and Corey Cott.

The season got off to a strong start, with its October 8 premiere up 21% from its prior full season 18-49 average.
