Ana Navarro Shouts Down ‘The View’ Cohosts Over Trump Dinner Question: ‘This Isn’t Funny’

Ana Navarro took an unusually sharp tone with her The View cohosts when it came to the second “Hot Topic” of the day on Tuesday (October 20).

After noting that ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith had dinner with Donald Trump at the White House (a subject they are planning to ask him about when he’s on the show on Wednesday), moderator Whoopi Goldberg asked the other panelists if they would ever entertain a visit to the White House themselves.

While some, like Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin, said they would meet with Trump in hopes of sharing their viewpoints on key issues like the war in Ukraine, Ana Navarro was vehemently opposed, if not outright disgusted, by the very prospect of it.

“No way in hell, no way in hell I would want to break bread or be in the same room with a man whose administration is hunting Latinos,” she said.

When Haines then interrupted to say with a laugh, “It’s not Lady and the Tramp,” suggesting she wouldn’t have to recreate the movie’s classic spaghetti scene, Navarro said coldly, “No, but listen. No, stop, this is not funny.”

She went on to explain, “What he’s doing to Latinos is criminal.”

When Haines suggested she could use the visit with Trump to advocate for her perspective, Navarro said, “No because I know it makes zero difference. I know that he has seen the polls of Latinos going against him, that he’s lost 50 points of support with Latinos, and his administration has doubled down on their cruelty. They are killing Latinos, chasing them, hunting them, racially profiling them, torturing them, sending them to places in far off Africa.” She then took a sharp, almost screeching tone when she said, rhetorically, “You think I’m going to go share a meal with him?!”

Haines then argued that Navarro has sat and discussed things with people she disagreed with before, like Thom Tillis in his recent visit to the show. However, Navarro insisted it wouldn’t make a difference at all, adding, “You know who’s going to hold him accountable? The people who are going to vote in the midterm elections.”

Griffin then stepped in to say that she had “total confidence” in Navarro being effective in relaying information to Trump if she had the chance, but Navarro pointed to evidence to the contrary. “The Republican incumbent congresswoman from Miami, Maria Salazar, put out an ad, looking at him in the face and saying, ‘You have gone too far on immigration, and the Latinos who put you into office feel betrayed.’ And his administration has gotten even worse. Every single day, there are people, including U.S. citizens, who look like me and talk like me, who are being targeted and dragged through the streets of America. I’m not gonna normalize that man. I’m not gonna give him the time of day. I’m gonna vote against him. I’m gonna campaign against him… I can buy my own damn wine and my own damn food.”

Sunny Hostin finally spoke up and expressed agreement with Navarro saying, “He’s the criminal in Chief. I think that he would not listen, and I don’t think this is a normal presidency. I think it’s abhorrent, and I think it’s abnormal. I think what he’s doing to Latino, I think what he’s doing to African Americans, I think what he’s doing to the LGBTQ+ community, I think the fact that he’s enriching himself, it’s so disgusting and abhorrent.”

Griffin then pointed to her own experience with former Vice President Mike Pence finding one piece of agreement with Russia’s Vladimir Putin as evidence that such meetings can be fruitful. However, Whoopi Goldberg had the final say and sided with Navarro and Hostin.

“This is a man who started out racially profiling people. It’s not the first time he’s done it. He’s done it for years, and I cannot, in good conscience, try to reason with someone who’s decided that I’m barely human,” Goldberg said. “Now, if he was a reasonable person and you could have a conversation, a give and take, and maybe don’t get what you want but can have that conversation. But he’s not reasonable.”

Navarro then offered one last thought to say, “It’s a moot point because the three of us ain’t getting invited anyways.”
