Joanna Gaines Shares Glimpse Into Daughter Ella’s Milestone 20th Birthday Celebration

Joanna Gaines is feeling like a proud mom as one of her and Chip Gaines‘ kids celebrates a milestone birthday.

The Magnolia Network stars are the parents of five kids: Drake, Ella, Duke, Emmie, and Crew. Though the couple rarely features their children on their social media pages, Joanna made an exception to celebrate Ella’s 20th birthday.

“T W E N T Y,” Joanna captioned the Wednesday, October 21, Instagram post. “You are radiant. You shine. We love you so much Ella.”

The upload featured photos of Ella’s at-home birthday celebration, complete with disco balls, sparkly streamers, and No. 20 balloons. Joanna filmed Ella blowing out her birthday cake candles as one of her brothers stood behind her, and showed off the all-white birthday cake with “twenty” spelled out in black letters on top. The post ended with a sweet childhood photo of Ella.

Fans left their own birthday messages in the post’s comments. “Wait! What? 20? Happy birthday,” one user wrote. Another added, “Wishing Ella a very happy 20th Birthday.” Someone else shared, “Ohhh! Wow! I watched the show when she was just a little girl! I can’t believe how much she’s grown! Happy birthday!”

A different person posted, “Ella??? When!! Happy Birthday and thank you mom and dad for sharing her with your viewers and letting us watch her grow up.” A separate commenter remarked, “What?!?! 20?!?! Happy birthday to sweet Ella.” Another fan gushed, “Seriously no way! Happiest of birthdays to Ella.”

Joanna and Chip’s kids have appeared on a handful of their home renovation shows over the years, most recently on Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House. On the show, which premiered last year, Ella showed off her own design skills by transforming one of the property’s guest cottages.

“There’s so many things that I love about this little cottage that I feel like Ella really saw from day one. I love the kitchen. I love how she played with blue and green. She was not afraid to mix colors,” Joanna said on the show. “The last time I saw Ella was when I dropped her off at college almost a month ago. So, getting to see her and how much she’s grown in just that one-month period, it does something to my heart.”

Back in August, Joanna got emotional on Instagram while reflecting on Drake and Ella starting their senior and sophomore years of college, respectively. “To all the parents sending their kids off to college… I know that feeling all too well,” she wrote. “Holding on a little tighter before letting go. Feeling proud of who they’re becoming and wishing time would slow down. But there’s nothing more fulfilling than watching your kids grow beyond you. I’m feeling it with you.”

In the post’s caption, she added, “Thinking of all the parents sending their kids off to college this season. I’ve been on that side of move-in day, so I know the wide range of emotions well. As hard as that goodbye is, there’s nothing more fulfilling than watching your kid grow beyond you —it’s one of the greatest gifts of being a parent. May you find joy, comfort, and gratitude in the letting go.”
