David Jonsson Teases Next Movie With Cooper Hoffman After ‘The Long Walk’

The Long Walk created a new and exciting acting duo that fans are eager to see work together again. Luckily, David Jonsson and Cooper Hoffman already have their next film together on the books. They’ll costar in The Chaperones from A24, directed by India Donaldson, who broke out with her first feature film, Good One, in 2024. Jonsson shared his excitement about reuniting with Hoffman on-screen with TV Insider.

The Chaperones, written by Sebastian Black in his feature film debut, is set days after Christmas and follows three slacker friends who are hired to transport a troubled teen across the country. Paul Dano and Billy Barratt also star in the movie, which doesn’t have a release date. It’s produced by Robert Pattinson‘s Icki Eneo Arlo production company and Brad Pitt‘s Plan B. Adam Wyatt Tate will executive produce.

TV Insider connected with Jonsson to discuss Audible’s Dracula, in which he plays Dr. John Seward. While he couldn’t share much of an update on where The Chaperones is in the production process, Jonsson did share that he is “very, very excited about it,” in part because of his reunion with Hoffman.

“I’m truly excited about it. I think it’s a really special movie, and India Donaldson’s wrecking it,” Jonsson told TV Insider. “I don’t know if you ever saw Good One, but it was a truly special film. You got such a good cast on it with Paul Dano as well, and we’ve got a wonderful young actor, Billy Barratt. Hey man, I’m super excited about it.”

Jonsson agrees with fan sentiments that say he and Hoffman should continue their artistic partnership. It’s less common these days for young actors to find a costar they repeatedly work with outside of sequels in the same franchise. Jonsson he’s “a fan” of repeated collaboration on new stories.

“Cooper’s similar to me, or at least we share this, that I’m not trying to do it like anyone else,” Jonsson told us. “I’ve got so much reverence for the history of film, but for me, I want to do what I want to do. And there’s a big part of me that wants to work with people that have pushed me and surprised me in special ways, and Cooper’s one of those actors, and I think maybe I’m one of those for him.”

“I also look at Matt Damon and Leo [DiCaprio]. Sometimes those guys, they crave to work together again to just do something, to go further, not with the same characters, but with something different,” Jonsson continued. “But I always say life is short, art is long. The aim is to try and make your art as long as possible and not think of it as these tiny pockets of like, ‘Oh, you got to do this and change it and do [it] different, never work with the same person again.’ It’s like, why? Because you hope that you leave something great behind the people that you love.”

Jonsson’s career is about to take off even more after he stars in Ryan Coogler‘s third Black Panther film. The Industry breakout will play Prince T’Challa II, also known as Toussaint, the grown son of T’Challa (the late Chadwick Boseman) and Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o).

Hoffman starred in Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex this summer and is starring in an upcoming Hulu drama called Durango alongside Kathryn Newton, Merritt Wever, Mason Gooding, and Abbey Lee.
