Casper star Devon Sawa recently made a bold confession about the 1995 film.
In an interview with People published on October 10, Sawa, 48, reflected on his breakout role as the human version of Casper.
“Doesn’t matter what I do nowadays. It doesn’t matter how cool the project is, I will always have to say, ‘Can I keep you?’ to somebody at some point,” he pointed out. “There will always be Casper stuff.”
However, Sawa admitted he hasn’t always been thrilled about the ’90s Halloween classic following him throughout his career.
“There was a time in my life I was like, ‘I don’t wanna talk about Casper. How dare you? I’m a thespian,’ you know?” he shared. “But… I gotta embrace it. It’s why I’m here. It’s what got me here.”
Casper starred Christina Ricci as Kat and Bill Pullman as her father, an afterlife therapist named Dr. Harvey. In the movie, father and daughter moved into a haunted mansion to rid the place of spirits — but in the process, they befriended a trio of chaotic ghosts, Stinkie (Joe Alaskey), Stretch (Joe Nipote), and Fatso (Brad Garrett), as well as a friendly ghost named Casper (voiced by Malachi Pearson). The movie also featured Cathy Moriarty, Eric Idle, Ben Stein, and Amy Brenneman, among others.
Today, Sawa stars as Mr. Cole, a warlock professor, in the Disney series Coven Academy. The show also stars Tiffani Thiessen, Malina Pauli Weissman, Malachi Barton, Jordan Leftwich, Ora Duplass, and Louis Thresher.
He even made a daring prediction about the show, telling People, “I think [Coven Academy] is going to be one of those [shows] that hopefully in 20 years, people will be like, ‘Oh, Mr. Cole.’ And I won’t be able to shake that either.”
