What To Know

  • Donald Trump has reportedly made an offer to fill the role of White House press secretary.
  • Here’s what to know about Katie Zacharia.

With Karoline Leavitt now officially out as White House Press Secretary, Donald Trump‘s second administration has now made an offer to a potential successor: Katie Zacharia.

Before being offered to join the White House, Zacharia has served as the senior communications advisor for Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company for Trump’s own social media outlet, Truth Social.

According to the New York Times, she previously worked at the Department of Homeland Security as a spokesperson for Kristi Noem, the former secretary of the department.

After the news of Zacharia’s potential appointment to the position went public, Brian Stetler reported on CNN that Trump had been consulting with Leavitt over who should take over the role, adding, “Katie Zacharia is as close as you can get to a Fox News contributor without actually being on the payroll at Fox. She’s been a regular guest on the network for many months, often appearing from California. She’s also appeared on other right-wing TV platforms. So the president certainly knows her and her television power.”

Fox News’ own reporters clarified that it is unknown at this time if Zacharia will accept the position, and if so, when her first official briefing at the White House might take place.

She was reportedly offered the job in October, following Leavitt’s departure in August.

Following the news, several other commenters on social media pointed to some of Zacharia’s more controversial moments in media history, including defending Trump’s sale of early access to his Truth Social posts for $100,000 (“They’re not getting insider trading information; they’re getting early access,” she said), her claims that the birth control pill Mifepristone was connected to World War II concentration camps, and her claim that Trump was “transparent” about the release of Jeffrey Epstein files.
