‘The Great British Baking Show’ Introduces New Twist: Who Got Eliminated?
What To Know
- The third episode of The Great British Baking Show introduced the first-ever Audience Choice Week.
- Contestants tackled challenges submitted by viewers, including a cheesecake, a mystery Technical, and a “wearable” Showstopper.
- The episode ended with the second baker eliminated from the competition.
After saying goodbye to HGV service center administrator Danni last week, The Great British Baking Show returned for its third episode with a brand-new, first-time-ever theme.
Hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding announced that the 11 remaining bakers would face the inaugural Audience Choice Week. This meant the contestants had to take on tricky challenges submitted by the viewers at home.
In the Signature, the participants were tasked with making a baked cheesecake alongside a family member. Meanwhile, for the Technical, the bakers received mystery ingredient boxes and could create something of their choice.
The Showstopper challenge was the most difficult, as the baking hopefuls had to create a “wearable” bake. Most contestants opted to make cake hats and headwear, though some got more creative with handbags and even angel wings.

Moyin, a political economy student from Essex, kicked things off in style in the Signature challenge with his orange basque cheesecake. The creation was such a taste sensation that he earned the coveted Paul Hollywood handshake. However, things literally fell apart for Moyin in the Showstopper when his edible top hat fell off its stand.

It was Clara, a marketing graduate from Portugal now living in Hertfordshire, who impressed Hollywood and Nigella Lawson consistently across the episode. While she did well in the Signature and Technical challenges, it was her Showstopper, a stunning piña colada-flavored handbag, that clinched her the episode’s Star Baker title.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go quite so well for Shannon, a Project Planner and Scheduler from Gloucestershire. Her lemon drizzle cake she made for the Technical didn’t go as planned and ended up having a “strange aftertaste,” in her own words.

And while her butterfly wings Showstopper looked pretty, it wasn’t enough to pull things back. Sadly, Shannon became the second baker to be eliminated from the competition.
“It’s so hard to put into words what this has meant to me,” Shannon said as she left the tent. “I have become myself, if anything, and I have let go of any persona of who I wish I was. I have just really been me, and it has been life-changing. That is the word life-changing, and I don’t want to say goodbye to anyone!”
Shannon made a particularly tight bond with Clara during her time on the show, and she was thrilled to see her friend win Star Baker. “The one thing that lifted me instantly was seeing my girl Clara get Star Baker,” Shannon added. “I was so proud of her; she absolutely deserved it after the week she had.”
