The cozy British mystery dramedy Ludwig, starring David Mitchell, is getting the American remake treatment, with ABC ordering a pilot for a new series titled Rabbit. The adaptation will bring the show’s quirky mix of puzzling crimes, mistaken identities, and unconventional detective work to the States, with a new setting and a new cast.

The original series stars Mitchell as John Taylor, a reclusive puzzle maker who assumes his missing twin brother’s identity to investigate his disappearance, only to find himself solving crimes for the local police. Rabbit follows a similar premise but moves the action to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where Mark, a solitary puzzle writer known as Rabbit, infiltrates the police department while searching for his missing homicide detective brother. His uncanny ability to crack seemingly impossible cases soon makes him an unlikely crime-solving sensation.

David Mitchell Reveals 'Ludwig' Season 2's 'Terrifying Villain' Who Changes Everything

BBC series Ludwig, which debuted in the U.K. in 2024, became Britain’s most-watched drama of 2026 after its Season 2 premiere drew more than 9 million viewers.

Rabbit will be written and executive produced by Megan Ganz and Humphrey Ker, alongside fellow executive producers Jonathan E. Steinberg, Dan Shotz, Mitchell, Mark Brotherhood, and Big Talk’s Kenton Allen.

Ludwig Season 2 premieres on Tuesday, October 13, on BritBox. Created by Mark Brotherhood, the British mystery dramedy was renewed for a second season by BBC One in October 2024, following the success of its debut season. The series has been renewed for a third season and a Christmas special by the BBC.
