Rob Lowe’s Son John Owen Shares Emotional Poem After Cousin Fiona’s Death at 13

Rob Lowe‘s son, actor John Owen Lowe, shared an emotional poem about hope on his Instagram page over the weekend, just days after his 13-year-old cousin Fiona died by suicide.

The poem he posted was Emily Dickinson’s “Hope Is the Thing With Feathers,” which reads, “Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words, and never stops at all. And sweetest in the gale is heard; and sore must be the storm that could abash the little bird that kept so many warm.”

It concludes, “I’ve heard it in the chillest land, and on the strangest sea; yet, never, in extremity, it asked a crumb of me.”

The post came after Rob and John Owen arrived at the Los Angeles home of Rob’s younger brother, Chad Lowe, on Thursday (October 1), per The Daily Mail. Fiona was the second daughter of Chad and his wife, Kim Painter. The couple also have daughters Mabel (17) and Nixie (10).

Last week, a statement from the medical examiner confirmed that Fiona was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 1:14 am on September 29. The manner of death was ruled a suicide.

The family previously alluded to Fiona’s mental health struggles in a statement announcing her tragic passing. “If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988,” the family wrote.

Fiona’s older sister Mabel paid tribute in her own post on Saturday, writing, “I love you so much Fiona. I wish your short time here was easier and I hope your mind is at ease now. I will honor you forever and keep your memory alive. I love you, I hope you knew just how much.”

Kendra Andrews, a teacher at the Los Angeles dance studio where Fiona was a student, also paid her respects. “FiFi, I love you more than words can convey,” she wrote alongside videos of Fiona dancing. “It was an honor to teach you, laugh with you, and watch you grow. Our hearts are shattered. We will never be the same without you here. I will miss you and love you forever.”

Chad and Kim previously released a statement about Fiona’s passing, stating, “We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives. Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time.”
