Hayley’s Finally Busted! ‘Beyond the Gates’ Star Marquita Goings Teases What’s Next

Hayley Hamilton was finally busted on Beyond the Gates this week, a moment nearly a year in the making.

For her portrayer, Marquita Goings, getting to play the pivotal scenes in which her con artist character is arrested for trying to kill her husband, Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett), was a daunting prospect.

“It did feel like a lot of pressure,” Goings tells TV Insider. “I can’t lie. It has been a year, almost, that she’s been poisoning Bill, so I wanted to make sure that I delivered in a way that was striking, but also still staying true to Hayley.”

While Goings learned months ago that the jig would eventually be up for her alter ego, Hayley was caught off-guard when her scheme began to unravel. Once Bill’s ex-wife, Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley), put the pieces together, however, Hayley’s fate was sealed.

“I feel like Hayley did get a little arrogant,” observes Goings. “I don’t feel like Hayley saw it coming at all. However, I think it started to hit when she got detained and she was at the police station.”

And once she was caught trying to dispose of the bottle of poison, “It was like, ‘Oh, something can happen if they were to search me.’ She really started to panic and that’s when it hit her that this was really serious,” adds the actress.

But Hayley still wasn’t ready to give up without a fight. She made one last-ditch attempt to try to convince Bill that she was the doting wife he thought she was. Unfortunately for her, it was too little, too late.

“She knew it was all bad and she was trying to map out a plan,” notes Goings of that moment. “She really thought, ‘OK. I can sweet-talk him. I can seduce him. I can do something.’ It wasn’t wise of her to think like that, but I think she was still trying to figure it out because she has nobody, really. There are a select few people that she has there in the town to come to her aid, but she’s always been able to convince Bill, and I think that’s what she was still thinking she could do.”

Surprisingly, it was town pariah Leslie Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant) who bailed Hayley out in the end, setting the stage for an unlikely alliance between two of Fairmont Crest’s most complicated characters.

“It’s mixed feelings,” says Goings of Hayley’s reaction to Leslie’s move. “Of course, she’s grateful to be out, but it’s Leslie. Deep down, Hayley is probably like, ‘OK, what is this about? Why did you do this for me?’ Because they’re not friends. Hayley hasn’t been kind to her at all. So, she’s torn.”

And Leslie’s gesture likely didn’t come without strings attached, meaning there will likely be a price to pay. “Hayley was only making money through Bill or at the [law] firm or the gifts that he gave her,” notes Goings. “Now, it’s like, ‘OK, Leslie bailed me out. How am I going to come up with the money? I don’t have the money. Or is there something else that I don’t know about and she’s going to want or need for me?’ What comes with Leslie bailing her out?”

Since fans have been waiting nearly a year for this moment, Goings has been tickled by the audience’s reaction online. “When the episode aired [where Dani busted Hayley], before I even watched it, I got tagged, and I texted Karla immediately,” Goings relays. “I was like, ‘Have you seen it?’ She was like, ‘No, I haven’t.’ But after that, she said Mr. Clifton Davis [Vernon Dupree] walked up to her. He had seen it, and he just was like, ‘Oh wow, y’all. I enjoyed your scenes.’ It was such positive feedback from someone of that caliber.”

Having Davis’ blessing encouraged Goings to finally check out the episodes herself. “We get nervous to watch sometimes, and knowing it was such a big moment, I was like, ‘You know what? Let me watch,’” she says. “I finally watched the clips and then watching everything that I was tagged in and seeing all the responses, I was like, ‘Wow.’ It’s really nice to see that a lot of people have been waiting for this moment, and to see so many different sides, where people are excited, and some people are like, ‘Oh, it’s finally over.’ I’ve seen some visual reactions to where they’re watching it and screaming at the TV, so that’s been nice to see as well.”

Goings says she is touched that the writers have given her such meaty material to play since the show began in February 2025, particularly over the past few months. “I am grateful,” she nods. “It’s definitely a little pressure because I want to make sure I tell a story that’s authentic, but I’m really enjoying the moment. I can be a perfectionist, so I get to also look at the scenes like, ‘Oh, I could have done it this way,’ or just kind of dissect myself, but also knowing that what we did was beautiful and everyone has taken to it.”

And while Hayley may have been arrested, Friday’s episode made it clear that she isn’t ready to disappear quietly. In the last scene, a glammed-up Hayley visited Bill in the hospital to prove that she may be down, but she’s certainly not out.

“I will say, this isn’t Hayley’s first rodeo,” points out Goings. “She hasn’t gone as far as getting arrested or been brought up on these types of charges before, but she’s always thinking and always trying to come up with a plan. So, whether she succeeds at her plans or not, she definitely is a strong woman, and she’s not just going to be defeated. She’s going to try to figure something out.”

Translation: The story is far from over. “Some people are like, ‘Will Hayley get off, as far as the charges? Will Marquita be on the show still?’” Goings teases. “There are so many things that people are asking. I don’t want to give away, but I would just hang tight. I love the twists and turns that the writers have written. There’s more to come.”
