‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’: Jamie Roy on Brian’s Quest to Win Over Dougal’s Trust

Outlander: Blood of My Blood‘s second season continues to inch closer and closer to the Jacobite Rising of 1715, and support could mean the difference between winning and dying. Warning: Spoilers for Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2, Episode 2 ahead!

The latest episode, “The Veil of Time,” saw Brian (Jamie Roy) set out with his father, Lord Lovat (Tony Curran), to gather men to represent Clan Fraser in the impending fight. After doing so, Brian chose to descend upon Castle Leoch in search of his love Ellen (Harriet Slater) to make sure she hadn’t been hurt by her brothers.

With his closest confidante Murtagh (Rory Alexander) by his side, Brian approaches Clan MacKenzie space knowing the danger he potentially faces, and it isn’t long before he enters the main hall only to be met with an angered Colum (Seamus McLean Ross) and a violent Dougal (Sam Retford). But it’s through their fist fight that Dougal can see how serious Brian is.

When the men separate to take a breather, Brian vows to deliver one hundred men to aid in the Jacobite cause, words that certainly appeal to Dougal. The promise is enough that Dougal permits Brian to stay on the grounds for their current celebration, but what does this new building block in their dynamic mean going forward?

“Well, I think a lot of McKenzies think of the Frasers [in] kind of like a blanket way; for instance, they think everyone’s just like Lord Lovett,” Roy tells TV Insider. “And then once Dougal starts to see Brian’s actually a good guy, I think there’s some sort of respect that’s just kind of simmering under the surface.”

This is particularly true as the season goes on as Roy teases, “And then they go into war together, and I think that bonds people quite deeply, and then something else happens later on in the season which I won’t spoil, but that definitely makes Dougal, dare I say, a fan of Brian? Maybe he wouldn’t agree, but you know, I like to think so, of course,” Roy adds.
