‘American Idol’ Makes Surprise Season 25 Judges Reveal at Luke Bryan Concert

American Idol is keeping the band together for its milestone 25th season, as Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Lionel Richie are all returning to the judges panel.

Bryan announced the news while on stage at his show in Nashville, Tennessee, on Thursday night (September 24). He was joined on stage by fellow judge Underwood, while Richie shared a video message on the big screen behind the performers.

“Hello Nashville! Look at this beautiful crowd,” Richie said as the fans in attendance cheered. “Now, let me tell you something, some of my greatest friendships have started right here in Nashville, Tennessee. That includes you, Carrie, and Luke.”

He finished by asking his fellow judges, “Do you wanna share our secret?”

Bryan then took the mic and said, “I’m so surprised that I’ve been able to keep this a secret. Are you ready, Carrie?”

“I’m ready,” Underwood replied.

The country star broke the big news, telling the crowd, “We’re coming back for the 25th season of American Idol!”

Underwood then shared the news that longtime Idol host Ryan Seacrest would also be back for Season 25. “Of course, what would American Idol be without Mr. Ryan Seacrest?” the singer said. “He WILL be back as well.”

“Go tell someone to audition,” Bryan added. “It’s gonna be legendary, right?”

Auditions for Season 25 are already underway as part of Idol Across America, the live virtual nationwide search for the next superstar, taking place across all 50 states plus Washington, D.C. Auditionees have until October 9 to showcase their talents in front of an Idol producer for a chance to advance to the judge auditions.

While the judges remain the same for the upcoming season, the location will change. As Deadline confirmed earlier this month, Idol will move its production from Los Angeles, California, to the Atlanta area of Georgia. The move is said to be financially motivated, as Georgia offers up to a 30 percent tax credit for reality television productions that spend at least $500,000 in the state.

Season 25 is set to premiere next year on ABC and will stream the next day on Disney+ and Hulu. Once live shows begin, episodes will also stream live on Disney+.
