Anthony Bourdain’s ‘Get Jiro’ Set for Adult Swim With ‘Chicago Med’s Brian Tee

In a future where chefs and their knives dictate survival, Los Angeles has become one giant, bloody kitchen.

Adult Swim’s Get Jiro is based on the graphic novel created by late culinary renegade Anthony Bourdain and writer Joel Rose. Set in a futuristic L.A. where elite master chefs rule like violent crime lords, the story follows Jiro, a ruthless sushi chef who finds himself caught between rival culinary factions and decides to play them against each other in a bloody turf war.

Now, the cult graphic novel is making its way to television. From Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios, the Adult Swim animated series stars Chicago Med alum Brian Tee as Jiro.

“We at Adult Swim were huge fans of Bourdain and Rose’s graphic novels, so when our partners at WBA first mentioned it, we were all in,” said Adult Swim President Michael Ouweleen. “Like everything Bourdain did, this story starts with food and then generously reaches out into all directions to cover culture, obsession, and what makes humanity problematic, but in the end, inspiring. What you get is a wildly original, cinematic series, the kind of thing that we feel is right at home on Adult Swim.”

When will Get Jiro premiere?

Get Jiro will premiere on Saturday, October 3, on Adult Swim at midnight ET/PT as part of its Toonami anime/action block, and episodes will stream the next day on HBO Max.

What is Get Jiro about?

The official logline reads: “Get Jiro transports viewers to a post-apocalyptic, near-future Los Angeles where culinary culture reigns supreme, and the world’s most powerful figures are chefs. In this society where food is both currency and a demarcation of class, the mysterious sushi chef Jiro (Brian Tee) sets out on a quest for vengeance.”
