Who and what is Kill. Bury. Print. about?

Kill. Bury. Print. follows the Willingham family — parents Bruce and Gwen, their son, Chris, and his wife Angie. As owners of a local paper, they actively began reporting on allegedly illicit activities in their county sheriff’s office.

When Sheriff Kevin Clady caught wind of this, the Willingham family became the target of his retaliation. However, the Willingham’s never expected it to get as far as it did when Clady and other local officials were caught on a secret recording planning to kill the family. Now an international news story, the Willinghams have become a beacon of conversation for political corruption and the press.

The official description reads, “When the McCurtain Gazette, a small family-run newspaper, begins reporting on alleged sex, drugs, and violence within the county sheriff’s office, they find themselves the target of the sheriff’s retaliation. Tensions escalate when the paper obtains a secret recording revealing the sheriff and local officials allegedly discussing having the family killed, turning a local investigation into international news.”

When did the original story that Kill. Bury. Print. is covering take place?

On March 6, 2023, Bruce Willingham left a voice-activated recorder in a room after a normal county commissioner meeting in hopes of finding law violations. Instead, it captured the county officials making racist and violent remarks, and of course, their thoughts and plans for Bruce and Chris Willingham. On April 17, 2023, the McCurtain Gazette published original excerpts and summaries of the recording, later releasing the full audio on April 20, 2023.
