‘The Price Is Right’ Contestant Pounds Floor in Frustration After Losing $212,000
A The Price Is Right contestant pounded the floor in frustration after missing out on a jaw-dropping $212,000 prize as the show returned for Season 55 on Monday, September 21. It would have been an incredible win. But he still left happy. Here’s why…
Brad Brooks won the third item up for bid on the show. It was an Ooni pizza oven package that he bid $901 on. Brooks had the highest bid, so he went on to play The Lion’s Share.
In this game, contestants are given one free ball. To earn four more, the game show contestant has to guess if the prices shown for four items are true or false.
Boxing pads were the first prize. It was listed at $14. It was either that or $41. Brooks said it was false, and he was right, earning another ball.
The next prize was a Cuisinart waffle maker listed at $83. He said it was false again, and he was right. The waffle maker was $38, so he got his third ball.
The next item was a digital handheld fan. The price was listed at $29. He said it was true and was correct again, earning him his fourth ball.
The final item was a zinc alloy garden hose nozzle. It landed at $51. Brooks said it was false and was correct since it was $15.
The balls he chose were 34, 27, 12, 37, and 19. Brooks chose 12, which had $2,500 behind it. The game show contestant then chose 34. That was $100,000.
“It’s our five-year anniversary trip, and my wife is screaming at me to stop,” Brooks told host Drew Carey. So, he stopped at $102,500.
However, Carey still showed him what was behind the other three balls. 19 had $10,000 behind it. 27 had an Airstream trailer behind it.
The final ball, 37, had a staggering $100,000 behind it. This would have given him $212,500. Brooks dropped to the floor and pounded his fists into the ground.
But then he got up and realized he was happy with his winnings. “I got $102,000 I didn’t have before,” he said.
“I don’t blame you for playing it safe. Wow,” Carey said.
Brooks then spun a .75 on the Showcase wheel and advanced to the Showcase. He bid $38,500 on a Dwarf Japanese maple bonsai tree, a 4K HDTV & ATARI 7800 pkg, and a 2026 26 Mustang EcoBoost.
The actual retail price was $37,789. Since his opponent, Javier, was $6,000 under the price, he won the Showcase.
