‘The Voice’: What Is the First-In Button? New Season 30 Addition, Explained
Even though The Voice is returning to its roots for the milestone Season 30, the show is also always looking for ways to keep things new and fresh. This fall, that will mean the addition of the First-In button, an advantage the coaches can use during the Blind Auditions.
Rather than having a Block button to prevent another coach from nabbing an artist in the Blinds, coaches Adam Levine, Queen Latifah, Riley Green, and Kelly Clarkson will have a chance to double down on a contestant whose talent they picked up on right away.

What is the First-In button?
The First-In button allows a coach to automatically get an artist on their team if they were the first to turn for that singer. When a coach uses their First-In button, they don’t have to fight against the other coaches if they were the first to turn around for a particular singer.
Executive producer Audrey Morrissey explained the new function to TV Insider in our fall preview.
“So many people would use as their pitch, ‘I turned first. I heard you instantly. They slept on you.’ So, we’re making a virtue out of it. It’s an asset,” she explained. “It’s like, guess what? If you want to use your First-In button and you did turn first, you automatically get them. So, if it’s a four-chair turn, you were first in, you can sweep up. We’ve never done that before.”
How many times can coaches use the First-In button?
Each coach can only use the First-In button one time, so they must choose wisely. There will definitely be a strategic element to it, as they’ll not only have to save it for the right person, but also make sure they’re turning quickly for an artist who will be impactful for their team.
When does The Voice Season 30 premiere?
The Blind Auditions begin with a three-night premiere starting Monday, September 21.
For the first week of programming, the show will be on from 8/7c to 10/9c on the 21st, 8/7c to 9/8c on Tuesday, September 22, and 8/9c to 9/8c on Wednesday, September 23.
It will then move into its regular two-hour programming slot at 8/7c on Mondays beginning on September 28.
