Duncan Sheik is in “critical condition” amid a health crisis, a statement on social media revealed.

On Wednesday, September 16, the “Barely Breathing” singer’s Instagram account shared the unexpected health update.

“Duncan is currently receiving medical care and remains in critical but stable condition,” the statement announced of the 56-year-old singer. “Out of respect for Duncan and our family, we will not be sharing any further medical details at this time.”

To conclude the update, the message shared, “We kindly ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time and will provide updates when appropriate. “Thank you for the continued love and support.”

Former ESPN Host David Pollack Asks for Prayers Amid Wife's Health Scare

In the comments, Sheik’s followers showered him with prayers and well-wishes during his health scare. One Instagram user wrote, “Dude. Love you. Please take all the time and space you need to recover. You are so important to so many of us!!!!”

Another fan shared, “Your music has healed so many of us. Universe of healing prayers surround you from all parts of the world.”

Someone else echoed, “I’m so sad to hear this. Thinking of Duncan and his family. Sending love and strength.”

A different Instagram user commented, “Praying for Duncan… many years loving your music…”

Meanwhile, yet another fan wrote, “Prayers that your heath is restored and that you recover quickly!”

In addition to his smash 1996 hit “Barely Breathing” — for which he snagged a nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance — Sheik is best known for co-writing the music for the original Broadway musical Spring Awakening alongside Steven Sater. It won Tonys for Best Original Score, Best Musical, and Best Original Score, in addition to a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Show Album.

Sheik also recently appeared in the HBO documentary Spring Awakening: Those You’ve Know.
