Noah Reid to Guest Star in ‘Sheriff Country,’ Possibly Lead Medical Spinoff
What To Know
- Noah Reid will guest star on Sheriff Country as a doc at “Edge Med.”
- Reid could go on to be a series regular on a new medical spinoff set in the same universe.
That potential medical spinoff set in the world of Edgewater, the home of Fire Country and Sheriff Country, is getting closer to becoming a reality.
Noah Reid has been cast as a guest star in an episode of Sheriff Country Season 2, playing a character who could go on to be a series regular in that medical spinoff, TV Insider has learned. Should it be ordered to series, it would follow a medical team in Edgewater, California.
Reid is set to play Dr. Hudson “Hud” Henshaw, the Chief of Emergency Medicine at Edgewater Memorial Hospital, a.k.a. Edge Med. “Charming and quick-witted, but rough-around-the-edges, Hud was born and raised in the outlaw hinterland known as Deadwater. He is the proud son of convicted felons, yet refused to take the family’s drug money to pay for medical school,” his character description reveals. “He is a passionate doctor who embodies his oath to ‘first do no harm,’ yet is not one to shy away from a good bar fight. A man deeply committed to the community he grew up in, he is a restless soul all the same.”

So far, this medical spinoff, expanding the universe of the two Friday night dramas, is only in early development. But this is following the same path that Sheriff Country did, with Morena Baccarin introduced as Sheriff Mickey Fox on Fire Country before that spinoff was officially ordered. Since, there have been a few crossovers between the two shows, made easy by the fact that Mickey and Fire Country‘s Sharon Leone (Diane Farr) are stepsisters. We’ll have to wait to see if there are any familial connections between the medical show and either of the existing dramas and to see if Camille (Natalie Zea), a doc on Fire Country, joins that cast.
The untitled medical spinoff is executive produced by Matt Lopez, Max Thieriot, Joan Rater, Tony Phelan, and Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed (JBTV) and produced by CBS Studios.
“We’re all really excited to hopefully get to bring to life the Fire and Sheriff version of what the medical world looks like in Edgewater,” Thieriot told TV Insider last spring after his show’s Season 4 finale.
Added Lopez (the Sheriff Country showrunner), “The idea would be to expand the universe, to allow to continue building this fabric, this sort of seamless universe with characters across all three. And we think the medical show is a natural thing and a medical show in a small town also is something we haven’t seen a ton of these whenever, whether it’s Brilliant Minds or Chicago Med and The Pitt — these are all great shows, but they’re big cities.”
He continued, “The challenge, and I think, the opportunity, is the same way that Mickey does law enforcement differently than any other cop on TV, how do the doctors and nurses of our hospital do medicine and heal patients differently? That’s something that’s really exciting. Again, it’s early stages, but we’re all really excited about it. And the idea would be characters and more than just Mickey — the show is being constructed in such a way that there are several, both Fire and Sheriff Country, characters that their storylines [are] baked in to cross with the medical show.”
