‘The View,’ ‘GMA’ & More Shows Preempted by 9/11 Coverage

9-11 Memorial
ABC News

It’s a solemn day in America as the nation remembers those lost during the attacks of 9/11, and the major television networks have been carrying the special coverage live instead of airing some of the usual daytime programming that was scheduled to air.

In lieu of The View, for example, ABC News ran its continued coverage, titled 9/11 25 Years Later: America Remembers, which featured footage broadcasting from the National September 11 Memorial in Manhattan. The ceremony featured a reading of the names of those lost on that day by victims’ family members, who also offered memories and messages for their loved ones.

Also preempted by live 9/11 memorial coverage were Live With Kelly and Mark, the third and fourth hours of Today, and parts of Good Morning America.

In place of its usual daytime programming, NBC aired parts of the Pentagon and Pennsylvania ceremonies as well, while ABC focused on the New York City-based service. CBS also aired live coverage of the ceremonies, as did BBC News, C-SPAN, NewsNation, MS Now, and more.

This coverage is just part of the wide television and streaming platform plans to honor the sacred occasion.

Also on Thursday evening, starting at 8/7c, will be the 9/11 light tribute, which will take place at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum and will be aired live by ABC News’ 9/11 Tribute in Light: Live From Lower Manhattan special.

The History Channel will air its special, 102 Minutes Inside the Towers at 8/7c, and NBC will air a special edition of Dateline with Lester Holt at 10/9c. Plus, CBS airs its two-hour special, Daughters of 9/11, starting at 9/8c, and Lifetime will air its special film, Angel in the Rubble: The Genelee Guzman Story on September 12 at 8/7c.
