More Murdoch Mysteries is coming to the U.S.
TV Insider can exclusively reveal that Season 20 of the beloved detective series is making its U.S. premiere on Monday, October 5, at 8/7c, on Ovation TV. Guest stars include Dancing With the Stars pro Emma Slater, Jason Mewes of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Yanic Truesdale of Gilmore Girls.
Murdoch Mysteries, based on Maureen Jennings’ popular Detective Murdoch books, follows the methodical and dashing detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson), who pioneers innovative forensic techniques to solve some of the city’s most gruesome murders in Toronto at the dawn of the 20th century.
In the 21-episode Season 20, a milestone, the series goes international, with Murdoch diverting his travels to Malta. There, mystery author Nigella Fletcher (guest star Sally Lindsay) awaits execution for murdering her husband — but Murdoch questions what seems to be an open-and-shut case and discovers a link to a stolen priceless tapestry, a centuries-old treasure map, and a mystery that has him going after both a fugitive and the truth. The detective and the Station House No. 4 team will also be grappling with personal and professional challenges as they tackle mysteries, groundbreaking inventions, and sharp social commentary, all the parts of the series that have made it such a hit and favorite.

Additional returning cast members include Thomas Craig (Chief Inspector Thomas Brackenreid), Lachlan Murdoch (Constable Henry Higgins), Kataem O’Connor (Constable Teddy Roberts), Daniel Maslany (Detective Llewellyn Watts), Shanice Banton (Chief Coroner Violet Hart), Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Inspector Albert Choi), Arwen Humphreys (Margaret Brackenreid), and Clare McConnell (Crown Attorney Effie Newsome).
In addition to Lindsay, Mews, Truesdale, and Slater, guest stars include Ennis Esmer, James Chatto, Kristian Bruun, and Hamza Haq.
“For almost two decades, Murdoch Mysteries has captivated audiences with its distinctive blend of clever detective work, compelling characters and rich historical storytelling,” said Sol Doten, Executive Vice President, Marketing & Strategy, Ovation TV, in a statement. “We are thrilled to bring U.S. viewers this landmark 20th season, filled with inventive mysteries and hidden drama all around.”
Added Christina Jennings, Chairman and President, Shaftesbury, “Twenty seasons is an extraordinary achievement, but as producers, hitting this milestone also means that we can’t take the success of this series, or its audience, for granted. We have to keep surprising viewers by finding new places for Murdoch to go. Sending him to Malta gave us the opportunity to take the series into full adventure territory – a pursuit across one of the most spectacular settings in the world. It’s Murdoch on a much bigger canvas, and exactly the kind of creative swing we want to keep taking in our twentieth season.”
Murdoch Mysteries premiered in Canada in January 2008. The series is executive produced by Christina Jennings, Scott Garvie, Yannick Bisson, Simon McNabb, and showrunner Peter Mitchell and produced by Jeremy Hood. It is developed and produced by Shaftesbury, in association with CBC, ITV Studios, and UKTV.

Season 19 was a boat anchor dragging on the bottom of the sea floor. Bad and boring storylines with characters going through the motions. Painful to watch. Surprised it's going into season 20.

Can't stand Murdoch or his wife, love the rest of the cast. I felt the same way about Bones.

Yeah, Yannic was blah on his Hallmark work too.
