Jenelle Evans got emotional as she shared an unfortunate life update with fans on September 8. The Teen Mom 2 alum revealed that she’s been dealing with health issues for the past several months, all stemming from an injury she suffered earlier this year.
Evans had knee surgery in April 2026 and said she noticed the leg was not getting better, leading to her complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) diagnosis. Per the Mayo Clinic, CRPS is a “form of chronic pain that usually affects an arm or a leg. CRPS typically develops after an injury, a surgery, a stroke, or a heart attack. The pain is out of proportion to the severity of the initial injury.”
Her surgeon recommended a pain management clinic, and Evans received a steroid injection in her lower back about two weeks ago. “I have been in excruciating pain ever since, which led me to go to the hospital,” she explained. “The symptoms I was experiencing that led me to the hospital was extreme lower back pain, middle back pain, my neck’s hurting. I’m literally in pain from the base of my skull to my tailbone. It is every single day, on top of my leg pain.”

At the hospital, she was sent out for an MRI. Evans said she had a cyst in her spine in 2022 that was filled with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and was warned she could be paralyzed if it got too big. Doctors advised her to keep an eye on it and inform them if she had any symptoms, which she said she is now experiencing.
The MRI revealed that the cyst grew from two millimeters to almost four millimeters. “On top of my cyst getting bigger, there’s also another cyst, not in my spinal cord, but next to it,” she added, noting that she’s “in pain if I sit up, [and] if I lie down, I have a headache that affects my skull. I still cannot walk on my leg, and it keeps flaring up.”
Doctors have encouraged Evans to “get up and go out and be in the water,” but she said that even droplets from the shower will make her leg inflamed. She said dealing with this is the “hardest thing” she’s ever had to go through, especially since it’s taken so long to get answers.
Evans choked back tears as she explained how frustrating the whole situation has been and revealed that she’s talking to a therapist about how she’s feeling about all of it. She needs crutches to walk because of her injured leg, but due to the new addition of back pain, it hurts her to use those crutches.
“I cannot begin to express how much pain I’m in every day of my life because of being diagnosed with CRPS,” Evans previously revealed. “I am posting this to bring awareness to how difficult it is living with this diagnosis, and there is no cure at this time.”
