Trump Calls CNN’s Kaitlan Collins ‘Dumb & Unhappy’ in Truth Social Attack

President Donald Trump took a break from posting AI-generated images on Tuesday (September 8) to launch a fresh attack on CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins, referring to her as “very dumb and unhappy.”

“Very dumb and unhappy Fake News CNN ‘reporter,’ Kaitlan Collins (really low ratings, also!), had a panel where discussions were all FICTION AND LIES,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The president continued, “You would think that CNN, which is suffering terribly in the TV Ratings, would get rid of their 3rd-rate ‘anchors,’ and try to bring credibility back to their once-storied network. It is fading FAST!”

“See you all at the Republican National Convention tomorrow night!!!” he concluded.

On Monday night (September 7), Collins hosted a special Countdown to Election Night edition of The Source ahead of the upcoming midterms. According to Mediaite, the show featured guests including Republican strategist Doug Heye, New York Times reporter Shawn McCreesh, NOTUS correspondent Jasmine Wright, and former communications director for Kamal Harris, Ashley Etienne.

The show also included a panel with CNN’s David Chalian and Paul Begala, along with Kevin Madden, who served as the campaign adviser for former Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT).

Trump didn’t specify what exactly got under his skin, but the show did feature Heye calling out the president for not helping Republican candidates enough. “Donald wants to spend money on himself. He doesn’t want to give things away,” Heye said, per Mediaite.

A CNN spokesperson defended Collins, telling the outlet, “Kaitlan Collins is an exceptional journalist, reporting every day from the White House and the field with real depth and tenacity. She skillfully brings that reporting to the anchor chair and CNN platforms every day, which audiences around the world know they can trust.”

This isn’t the first time Trump has personally attacked Collins. Last December, he called the CNN host “stupid” and “nasty,” and at a February press conference, he said he’s never seen her smile. He doubled down on those insults at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in July.

“‘But she’s a young, attractive woman. She never smiles,” the president stated. “I said, ‘Kaitlan, you ever smile?’ Smile. You have a nice position. You’re at CNN fake news. You should be a happy person. So smile, Kaitlan. Just smile.”

He also compared her to transgender actress and influencer Dylan Mulvaney, saying, “I thought Kaitlan had really made it big with a major new sponsorship, but… it wasn’t her on the Bud Light can; it was Dylan Mulvaney.”
