Spider-Noir is officially canceled after just one season — and the news came as the Nicolas Cage-led series is up for nearly a dozen Emmys.
On September 4, Variety reported the unexpected cancellation of the Prime Video series after only eight episodes. The show premiered on MGM+ on May 25 and could be streaming on Prime Video the following day.
The news came after the show snagged 11 Emmy nominations (the most of any Prime Video show at this year’s awards show) and as it boasts a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Nielsen’s streaming content ratings reveal that Spider-Noir attracted 2.6 billion viewing minutes in its first six weeks.
On Reddit, Spider-Man fans shared mixed reactions to Spider-Noir‘s cancellation. Some were disappointed, like one Redditor who declared, “That sucks. I thought the show was solid and was looking forward to another season.”
Another lamented, “Actually tragic.”
Someone else echoed, “Damn, that’s a shame. It was really good.”
However, others thought the story had run its course, with one Redditor pointing out, “This show was the definition of a one and done. I just assumed it was a 1 season thing to begin with.”
A second agreed, writing, “No surprise there. The story was over.”
Meanwhile, yet another Redditor shared, “Honestly, I’m not terribly upset about it. While it sucks, I’m just grateful that we got this at all and that it was actually good, especially considering how many other CBM projects get cancelled or go through development hell.”
Based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man Noir, the series starred Cage as Ben Reilly during the Great Depression. Its logline describes Ben as a “seasoned, down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York” who is “forced to grapple with his past life, following a deeply personal tragedy, as the city’s one and only superhero.”
Additionally, Spider-Noir starred Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, Brendan Gleeson, Scott MacArthur, and Joe Massingill, among others.

At least we got the one season, but I'll miss Cage's bravura performance going forward.

Glad to know Amazon doesn’t just cancel gay shows that are well received and award nominated.

I think 18-35 yr old viewers don't know what a great story is anymore.
