How Giada De Laurentiis’ Daughter Reacted to Her ‘DWTS’ Season 35 Casting

The only person who may be more excited than Giada De Laurentiis about her Dancing With the Stars casting is her daughter, Jade.

The former Food Network star was announced as one of the celebrities competing on Season 35 of the ABC series on Wednesday, September 2. De Laurentiis will make her debut in the DWTS ballroom later this month alongside her pro partner, Alan Bersten.

In an exclusive interview with TV Insider after the full cast announcement on Wednesday’s episode of Good Morning America, Bersten revealed whether he’s received Jade’s stamp of approval as her mom’s partner.

“I think so,” he stated, to which De Laurentiis added, “He and Jade were like [tight], ‘cause she can dance, actually. She does musical theater, and she’s learned to dance quite a bit. So, I think she’s kind of surprised that I’m not able to do that much of it. But yeah, Alan and Jade are thick as thieves.”

As for whether Jade will be in the DWTS audience cheering her mom on this season? “I hope so,” De Laurentiis said. “She’s at school here in New York, so I’m hoping at some point, if I make it that long, that she’ll come out and see [it].”

De Laurentiis shares her only child with her ex-husband, Todd Thompson. The two recently reunited to help Jade move into her first-year dorm room at New York University. “It takes a village… my heart,” she captioned Instagram snaps from move-in day on Friday, August 28.

Following the DWTS cast announcement, Jade took to her Instagram Story to share her reaction to her mom’s new gig. “So my mom is the coolest girl in the world,” she wrote alongside a promo photo of De Laurentiis and Bersten in their dancing garb.

Jade also reposted a funny video she filmed with her mom and Bersten, writing, “These 2 for the win.” The video, which De Laurentiis shared on Wednesday, featured Jade and Bersten pretending to meet for the first time while lip-syncing to a popular TikTok audio. “Who are you?” Jade mouthed as Bersten walked in on her and De Laurentiis in the kitchen. He replied, “I’m Pam. Who are you?” The clip ends with Jade mouthing, “I’m the owner of this house.”

In the post’s caption, De Laurentiis joked, “My first order of business – getting @jademarie_dlt ‘s approval.”

Bersten also got in on the social media fun by sharing a video of himself and De Laurentiis recreating Gordon Ramsay‘s famous “idiot sandwich” meme in a Wednesday Instagram video. “I can’t believe I get to dance with @giadadelaurentiis this season!!” he captioned the upload.

While chatting with TV Insider on Wednesday, De Laurentiis shared whether her skills as a chef have translated into dance so far. “I’ve always said that a great cook is like a ballet dance in the kitchen,” she noted. “But clearly, I don’t have that skill because I can’t seem to translate it effortlessly and elegantly yet. But I plan on working on it.”

Bersten expressed his hopes for De Laurentiis’ dancing growth, stating that the “key word [is] ‘yet.’”
