Ed O’Neill recently reunited with several of his Modern Family co-stars for a rare public appearance.
On Monday, August 31, Sofía Vergara took to Instagram with a carousel of photos featuring the mini-reunion.
“With my American family!!” she captioned the update, alongside red heart emojis. “I can’t believe it’s been 6 yrs since the Modern Family finale!!! I miss u guys!!!”
In the featured photo, O’Neill posed with Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Vergara, and Modern Family co-creator Christopher Lloyd. Other shots showed the four actors smiling together, just Vergara and Bowen, and just Vergara and O’Neill. Humorously, Vergara included the song “In the Moonlight (Do Me),” which Dylan (Reid Ewing) sang in Season 1.
O’Neill played Jay Pritchett, while Bowen played Claire Dunphy, Ferguson played Mitchell Pritchett, and Vergara played Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the mockumentary-style sitcom.
Modern Family fans were thrilled to catch a glimpse of O’Neill, and many shared the same sentiment about his youthful appearance. One Instagram user marveled, “WTF, why Ed O’Neill looks younger than in the series.”
Another demanded, “What’s Jay’s skincare routine, omg???”
Someone else echoed, “Ed didn’t age a day! Stopping the show has a positive effect on him.”
A different follower commented, “I miss you guys soooo much,” as another suggested, “I say that Modern Family gets a reboot.”
Meanwhile, yet another Instagram user declared, “Song choice top notch,” with laugh-crying emojis.
Although Modern Family stars frequently reunite — like at Ferguson’s off-Broadway show in May, on Dylan Dreyer‘s podcast in May, and during various meet-ups shared on social media — it isn’t often that O’Neill is photographed meeting up with them. He hasn’t taken on many acting roles since the sitcom ended, either. Most recently, O’Neill appeared in five episodes of All’s Fair in 2025.
Modern Family aired for 11 seasons from 2009 to 2020. In addition to O’Neill, Vergara, Bowen, and Ferguson, it starred Ty Burrell as Phil Dunphy, Eric Stonestreet as Cameron Tucker, Rico Rodriguez as Manny Delgado, Nolan Gould as Luke Dunphy, Sarah Hyland as Haley Dunphy, Ariel Winter as Alex Dunphy, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons as Lily Tucker-Pritchett, and Jeremy Maguire as Joe Pritchett, among others.
