‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Sneak Peek: Who’s Leaving the Enterprise?
What To Know
- M’Benga and Chapel have a tense argument about their futures on the Enterprise in TV Insider’s exclusive clip of the August 27 episode of Strange New Worlds.
- The upcoming episode, “Off-Hour,” unfolds in real time.
Seeing Dr. M’Benga (Babs Olusanmokun) and Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) at odds hurts. But that’s exactly what’s coming up between them — before one ends up in some serious danger! — in the Thursday, August 27, episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek.
The clip, which you can watch above, picks up right in the middle of their argument. “Don’t pretend it didn’t mean something,” Chapel says. “You said it, so there must be a reason.” The doctor calls it “an off-handed comment,” but she argues, “There must be some truth to it. Can you please have the guts to admit that?”
M’Benga tells her, “We’re friends and you’re an indispensable medical officer, except you chose to remain on temporary duty assignment.” When she asks if he’s mad she never applied for permanent duty on the Enterprise, he just points out, “You’ve always had one foot out the door.”
That’s when Chapel calls him out on his plans regarding his future there: “You’re the one who’s leaving. I’m just keeping my options open.”
Watch the full video above to see what he thinks of that and her response.
It especially hurts to see these two fighting given their history together during the Klingon war.
“We’ve been through a lot together and have been each other’s safety for a long time,” Bush told us in 2023, during Season 2. “And so we really understand what the other person needs without having to say it on an emotional level — and then also in an action sense.”

As for what else is coming up in this next episode, the sixth of the fourth and penultimate season, titled “Off-Hour,” Paramount+ teases, “Unfolding in real time, the Enterprise falls into a slipstream that pushes them to a catastrophic warp threshold. As our crew is siloed across the ship, M’Benga is crushed under a biobed, leaving a lone Chapel to save her mentor.”

Hopefully he turns into a muppet and slips out from under the biobed unscathed.
