HGTV’s David Bromstad Shares Glimpse Inside Fun-Filled Birthday Trip

After celebrating a major career milestone, David Bromstad celebrated his birthday by taking a special trip with friends.

“Birthday perfection! What an incredible week in Ptown!” he captioned a Saturday, August 22, Instagram post. “Another trip around the sun and the gratitude is enormous. It’s been an incredible year of building, reflection, authentic connections, celebration and pure magic. The blessing and gifts I’ve received this year is beyond comprehension. Sobriety has brought the most yummy life I was always meant to live.”

Bromstad continued, “Feels great being 53 and loving every part and version of myself. The friends I have cultivated because of that clarity has been authentically delicious. Thank u @carlos_inspires for opening up your home in this perfect place and thank u @gstott7 for being the best bestie a bestie can ask for! Thank u both for celebrating me this entire week. I’ve never felt more special.”

Bromstad’s post featured several pics and clips from his birthday trip to Provincetown, Massachusetts. In addition to blowing out his birthday cake candles, Bromstad and his friends enjoyed the coastal town by spending time at the beach, taking a scenic bike ride, and checking out local home design.

In the post’s comments, one person wrote, “Happy Birthday David. We’ve watched My Lottery Dream Home several times over the years, and always enjoy your kindness and laughter. Here’s to many many more years.” Another added, “Happy birthday icon!! I love the way you express and carry yourself. You inspire me to be more free spirited.”

Someone else gushed, “Happy birthday! You are rockin’ 53 & sobriety!” A different person posted, “Wishing you joy and blessings on your 53rd! Your kindness and light make this world a better place.” A separate commenter stated, “Happiest Birthday David. 53 looks Fabulous on you. Nothing like celebrating with great buds!”

Bromstad recently celebrated his 20th anniversary on HGTV. The My Lottery Dream Home host won Season 1 of HGTV Design Star back in 2006, after which he hosted his debut series, Color Splash, from 2007 to 2013.

Bromstad has remained an HGTV mainstay, hosting and appearing on shows such as Bang For Your Buck, Beach Flip, Brother vs. Brother, Rock the Block, and House Hunters. He has hosted My Lottery Dream Home since 2015.

Back in December 2025, Bromstad took fans inside the renovation of his house on the HGTV special My Lottery Dream Home: David’s Happy Ending. In a June interview with Barron Designs, Bromstad hinted that the special might mark his retirement from on-air home makeovers.

“It’s been so long since I’ve done any sort of design in front of America, right? And I’m an artist, you know? I love my job with Lottery, but I am a creative through and through. And so, it was really nice to be able to flex my muscles a little bit,” he explained. “And at first, when I started doing the design, it was coming from a very different place. I was like, ‘This is probably the first and last time I’ll be designing in front of America, so I have something to prove to them, to everyone out there.’ And then, working on my mental health, I was like, ‘I have nothing to prove to anybody but myself.'”
