Lawrence Jones was back on the Fox and Friends sofa on Monday (August 24) following a short health-related hiatus, and he expressed his doubts about the Republican Party’s chances in the upcoming midterms.

The Fox News host discussed the elections with his co-hosts, Ainsley Earhardt and Brian Kilmeade, focusing on whether the GOP could keep the House majority in November. “I think it’s a coin flip right now when it comes to the House,” Jones said.

After Kilmeade noted how House Speaker Mike Johnson believes there are 19 seats in play for the midterms, Jones shared his concerns about whether the Republicans can win those seats.

“Look, I’m not saying the Republicans aren’t trying, but I don’t see the energy with the Republicans right now,” he said, per Mediaite. “And I just think they have a hard time explaining how we got into this mess when it comes to the Biden administration pumping all the money into the economy, and inflation, the impact.”

He added, “They say the number one rule in politics is if you are explaining, you’re losing; they haven’t been able to make that case.”

Earhardt asked Jones what he’d like to see from the Republican Party, to which he replied, “Well, they have to be honest with the American people and say, ‘Look, we haven’t gotten here as fast as we want, but we were in the ditch, and things are going well as it relates to where we came from.'”

“‘When you look at prescription drugs. When you look at the tax cuts that you were able to get, we are working on it,” he continued with his message Republicans should be getting across. “‘If you think things are bad right now, turn the keys over to the Democrats.'”

Jones added, “It’s not enough just to say that they are crazy, and I do agree. They are crazy, especially some of these candidates that they are running. Everything is gonna be about the pocketbook in [this] election, though.”

The 33-year-old political commentator has recently been absent from Fox and Friends due to a medical situation. Last week, he explained to his social media followers the reason for his absence, revealing he sustained another detached retina, which required surgery.

“I’ve been open about my eye surgery due to a retinal tear. However, I later discovered that this was caused by a childhood sports injury. Regrettably, I’ve sustained another retina detachment, which is common after the initial tear,” he wrote on X last Thursday (August 20).

He continued, “Yesterday, I underwent surgery again with the best care team. I want to express my deepest gratitude to my colleagues, Fox management, and our audience for their unwavering support during this challenging time.”
