Savannah Guthrie’s Plea to Mom’s Kidnapper Contains Hidden Messages, Says Ex-FBI Agent

A former FBI agent says the way Savannah Guthrie worded her last video message about mom Nancy Guthrie could be a hint that there have been new developments in the investigation to find the missing 84-year-old.

“Most folks will read it as another plea from a grieving daughter. It is that, first and last. But something in the wording shifted, and it is worth noting,” Jason Pack told Page Six. He noted that she did not seem to be “speaking into a void,” and that her message was “consistent” with someone responding directly to something, although he said this consistency is not “evidence” that that’s the case.

“Only the investigators know whether a new communication came in,” Pack reiterated.

Tracy Walder, a former CIA agent, believes Savannah received another ransom letter based on the wording in the video. “She’s answering specific questions,” Walder explained. “She does allude to the fact that some type of ransom was paid.” This is a reference to Savannah saying, “We have done our part,” in her video.

Pack agreed, adding, “Five words, and not one of them an accusation. But it lands like a receipt. It says this family held up their end.”

He also broke down specific instances in Savannah’s new video that are different from what she’s said in the past. “For six months, this family asked for a person. ‘Bring her home. Return her to us. We will pay.’ This week, Savannah said, ‘Tell us where to look for her,'” he pointed out. “That is a different request than the ones before it. Where to look is not the same as bringing her back. What that means is not for me to say. It is her sentence, and she chose it.”

Savannah also appeared to be addressing one person directly in her new video when she said, “I know that you tried to do things the right way.” Pack compared this to her previous messages, in which she said phrases such as, “Whoever has her or knows where she is,” which is much broader.

Savannah posted her latest video on July 27. “I’m coming on today with a very specific message,” she said. “It has been months since our mom was taken from us. Our family is in agony. We are in a nightmare that will not end. Nothing about our situation has changed. We have done our part, but we will never stop looking for her.”

She continued, “We will always ache for her and feel that hole in our hearts. The world can be a cruel and unforgiving place, and I know that you have tried to do things the right way. So I’m asking you, begging you, to do the right thing now. Make the right choice. Help us find her. Tell us where to look for her. I truly believe it is never too late to do the right thing. Help us bring this situation to an end for all of us, no matter where we’ve been and what we’ve done. I believe there is always a way home. Please make the right choice.”
