Nancy Guthrie Update: Sheriff Gives Hopeful Update After Savannah’s New Plea

Sheriff Chris Nanos, who has been leading the investigation into Nancy Guthrie‘s disappearance since she was reported missing on February 1, shared an optimistic new update with the public on July 27.

“We have so much DNA to sort through,” he said in an NBC interview that aired during the Today show on July 28. “We have so much in terms of video evidence to look at.” Point-blank, Nanos confirmed, “I’m still positive that we’re going to resolve this case.”

This latest update from Nanos comes after Nancy’s daughter Savannah Guthrie posted a new video plea to her mother’s abductors.

“I’m coming on today with a very specific message,” Savannah said. “It has been months since our mom was taken from us. Our family is in agony. We are in a nightmare that will not end. Nothing about our situation has changed. We have done our part, but we will never stop looking for her.”

Savannah added that she and her siblings sill “feel that hole in our hearts” without the closure of knowing what happened to their mother. She spoke directly to the kidnappers, adding, “The world can be a cruel and unforgiving place, and I know that you have tried to do things the right way. So I’m asking you, begging you, to do the right thing now. Make the right choice. Help us find her. Tell us where to look for her.”

She informed her mother’s captor that “it is never too late to do the right thing” and begged, “Help us bring the situation to an end for all of us, no matter where we’ve been and what we’ve done. I believe there’s a way home. Please make the right choice.”

Erin McLaughlin, a correspondent for Today, admitted that it’s unclear why Savannah chose to release this video message now, but added, “[It] could be in response to a new line of communication.”

Although it’s been nearly six months since Nancy disappeared, no suspects have been arrested.
