Tony Romo Bodycam Footage: NFL Analyst Refuses Breathalyzer Test & Claims He Had Zero Drinks

Bodycam footage from Tony Romo‘s July 23 arrest has been released. The video, obtained by The California Post, features the CBS Sports NFL analyst insisting he was not under the influence, despite his later arrest on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI).

A female police officer approached Romo in his vehicle after pulling him over. He informed her he was coming from the golf course and headed to visit his grandparents. When the officer asked Romo how many drinks he’d consumed, he confidently said, “Zero.”

When the woman told Romo she was going to run him through some field sobriety tests, he grabbed his cell phone and said he was going to call his lawyer. “You’re denying to step out of the vehicle pending fields?” she asked, and he replied, “No, I’m just going to call my lawyer.”

The officer eventually got Romo to step out of his vehicle, leading him to question, “Because I’m coming from the golf course, you think I’m drunk?” However, he agreed to be handcuffed and taken to a location on even ground where the field sobriety test would be performed.

The footage then picked up with Romo and the officer in a new location, with her informing him, “When my partner brought the backpack that you wanted [from your vehicle], we basically do, not an inventory, but I make sure there’s no guns in there, and there were a few shooters that I observed.”

Romo replied, “Yeah, any of them drank? I don’t think any of them were drank.” He then performed various stretches before the field sobriety test. When the officer asked him if he would take a breathalyzer test, he said, “Oh no. We’re not doing that. You hear from all the lawyers, ‘Don’t ever do that,’ so we’re not going to do that.”

The officer then asked Romo to turn around, at which point he realized he did not pass the field sobriety test. “Can I use my phone real quick?” he asked. “Because there’s a plane taking off, my parents are there…” He was then told that he was under arrest for operating under the influence.

Romo is due to appear in court on September 21.
