‘Embassy’: What to Know About Sam Heughan & Anna Kendrick Thriller

A diplomatic disaster will bring Anna Kendrick, Sam Heughan, and J.K. Simmons together on screen for Embassy. MGM+ has announced the pickup of distribution rights for this new thriller series, which will see the trio at the center of an embassy invasion in London that threatens everyone.

When does Embassy premiere?

MGM+ has not yet announced the premiere date for Embassy, but the series has already been filmed on location in Cologne, Germany, and London, England. It will consist of six episodes.

Who stars in Embassy?

Anna Kendrick, Sam Heughan, and J.K. Simmons lead the cast of the series. Additional cast members include Katie McGrath, Luke Treadaway, James Murray, and Alexander Karim.

The series is created and written by Rom Lotan and directed by John Strickland and Christian Alvart. It’s executive-produced by Lotan, Strickland, Ascendant Fox’s Hester Ruoff, Bart Ruspoli, and Matt Mitchell, Turbine’s Daniel Hetzer, Jacob Neuhausser, Justin Thomson, and David Tanner, and AGC’s Stuart Ford, Lourdes Diaz, and Miguel A. Palos Jr.

What is Embassy about?

The series’ official description tells us, “When armed mercenaries storm the U.S. Embassy in London, Layla (Kendrick), a sharp and resourceful American diplomat, faces an impossible choice: protect the U.S. Ambassador (Simmons) or follow his orders to exfiltrate a high-value asset being held at the embassy. As a larger conspiracy unfolds, Layla must rely on her instincts – and the reluctant help of her ex-fiancé, a British SAS soldier (Heughan) – in the tense hours before extraction.”

Is there a trailer for Embassy?

Not yet. However, MGM+ did reveal the first look at the series with the above photo of Kendrick and Heughan, seemingly hiding in a ventilation shaft.

What else is there to know about Embassy?

MGM+’s acquisition of the series was announced on July 28. In a statement, the company’s global head, Michael Wright, said of the news, “Embassy is an exciting addition to the MGM+ slate—a high-octane six-part thriller with an exceptional cast and creative team. Anna Kendrick, Sam Heughan, and J.K. Simmons, along with series creator Rom Lotan and directors John Strickland and Christian Alvart, have created a cinematic thriller that reinforces MGM+ as a destination for classic storytelling for a modern audience.”
