White House Slammed for Ripping Off ‘Rick and Morty’

In a news cycle dominated by headlines about rising gas prices and other pressing issues, the Donald Trump-led White House took an unexpected detour into sci-fi and the Citadel of Ricks, releasing an animated video that quickly drew attention online.

The government agency’s official social channel took to X to post a bizarre AI-generated animated video in the style of Rick and Morty. The clip features Trump and JD Vance fleeing an alien in a spaceship before arriving at the Senate, where Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer removes his face to reveal a robot underneath. The video ends with border czar Tom Homan, dressed as a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent, arresting actual aliens.

Posted with the caption, “Hop in… best dimension yet,” the 36-second clip parodies the title sequence of Rick and Morty, using similar action sequences and font to the long-running cartoon series.

The strange post from the White House was shared after the series show’s cocreator Dan Harmon, stated that Trump and his predecessor, former President Barack Obama, had provided inspiration for the new spinoff cartoon, President Curtis, featuring Keith David in his own animated series.

“Curtis has a naïveté that you could overlap with Trump, who is like, ‘I’m an outsider, and I consider this job simple, and I don’t care about the bureaucracy of it.’ On the Obama side, it’s the charmer and the guy who gets organic joy in being liked – that whole rock star aspect of Obama,” said Harmon to The Hollywood Reporter. “But mostly just more legendary aspects of presidents from the past, all Serpentor’d into a test tube baby that then becomes our version of maybe Martin Sheen in The West Wing, where it’s our fantasy president, warts and all.”

Response to the video has been wild.

“People can’t afford gas, groceries, rent, and healthcare and this is the weird embarrassing cr*p the official White House account is putting out,” former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote in response to the post.
