What To Know

  • Ghosts‘ Season 6 holiday specials have set premiere dates at CBS.
  • The team behind the fan-favorite comedy previews Die Hard-inspired storylines and more to come later this year from SDCC.

Ghosts may not return for Season 6 until 2027, but fans will get to dive back into the CBS comedy with two holiday specials before then — and should gear up for some big action as the team previewed a Die Hard-themed Christmas episode at San Diego Comic Con.

Before Christmas, though, a Halloween special will air on Thursday, October 29, at 9/8c, filling an hour-long timeslot, offering fans their first glimpse at Woodstone following Season 5’s cliffhanger surrounding Pete (Richie Moriarty), which saw the spirit fully disappear after wandering off property for too long.

As for what’s in store on the Halloween side of things, co-showrunner Joe Port says, “We’re doing a Halloween special, our first-ever one-hour, where we’re gonna meet Hetty’s (Rebecca Wisocky) sister, who we’ve never met before, and she’s a ghost, and she’s gonna come to us in a very surprising way.”

While the possibility of meeting another member of Hetty’s family is certainly intriguing, the team remained tight-lipped when TV Insider caught up with them at SDCC about Pete’s potential return. Asher Grodman, who plays pantless spirit Trevor, admitted, “I don’t think we can say…. but the actress playing her sister’s amazing.”

Meanwhile, about the Christmas special airing Thursday, December 10, at 9/8c, Port teased, “We’re doing a Die Hard-inspired one-hour special for Christmas. There’s a lot of debate about that being a Christmas movie or not, and the ghosts will participate in that debate over the course of the special, and… a couple of people from the past are gonna come and hold some ghosts hostage, and Jay’s [Utkarsh Ambudkar] gonna have to save the day.”

The revelation about Die Hard rings true to the show’s penchant for paying homage to fan-favorite films through episode storylines, and it’s a prospect that is thrilling to Ambudkar, who chimed in with John McClane’s (Bruce Willis) favorite phrase, “Yippee Ki Yay.”

With premiere dates for the two specials finally in sight, stay tuned for more as the Ghosts team gets to work on Season 6, and let us know what you hope to see from the CBS comedy in the comments section below.
