Craig Melvin has been enjoying time away from Today with his family.
Both Melvin and Savannah Guthrie have been absent from the NBC morning show since last week, with the likes of Sheinelle Jones, Willie Geist, and Laura Jarrett filling in for them at the anchor desk. While Guthrie is away filming NBC’s upcoming Wordle game show, Melvin is currently on a summer break.
Both hosts were absent once again on Monday, July 27, with Jones and NBC News’ Hallie Jackson leading the show’s 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. ET hours.
Before Monday’s show, Melvin’s wife, Lindsay Czarniak, shared a glimpse of her husband’s time off from Today via Instagram with photos from their family’s beach vacation. “Family #grateful #family #HHI #summer,” she captioned the upload, the first slide of which featured a sweet snap the couple took with their son, Delano, and daughter, Sybil.
The post’s other slides included a pic of Melvin and other family members enjoying a day out on the ocean in a boat, as well as a photo the entire family snapped during a group dinner.

“Have a wonderful Family vacation!” one fan commented underneath the post. Another added, “Enjoy ur family time, u deserve it.” Someone else gushed, “Love the big family picture!!” Referring to Sybil’s frown in the first slide’s picture, one person quipped, “Little bit not looking too happy kiddoes!”
Melvin previously shared a vacation snap of his feet on the beach via Instagram, writing, “Out of office… Nothing like hanging with the family. Hope you’re enjoying this summer too.” Fans, however, weren’t too fond of Melvin sharing a snap of his feet. “In this economy? Feet ain’t free, Craig!” one person joked underneath the Tuesday, July 21, upload. Another said, “Good for you and your family… Kid, time for a pedicure.”
In a Monday Instagram post, Melvin hinted that he will be back in Today’s Studio 1A sooner than later. “Last full day of paradise and the scruff just got approved by my most important critic,” he wrote alongside a beach selfie. “Apparently growing it out is a vacation win. Hair growing, soul restored, daughter approves—what more could you ask for? Soaking in every moment before we have to leave this place.”
Melvin’s facial hair got Al Roker‘s approval, as the Today weatherman commented, “Looks good, Brother. And be thankful you can still grow it. Miss you.” NBC News’ Emilie Ikeda, for her part, wrote, “Nothing is more rejuvenating than time by the water!”

Other fans were happy to see Melvin looking well as his vacation comes to a close. “Craig … come back rockin the Goatee on Monday!! I dare ya!!” one user commented. Another added, “You look very contented with a much deserved vacation!” Someone else shared, “The smile of a heart full and a man at peace.”
A different person posted, “Miss seeing you! Enjoy your family every minute!” A separate commenter stated, “And this is what should matter most. The Queen and princess approval. Your smile says it all!”
