See HGTV’s Mika Kleinschmidt In Rehearsal for Exciting Off-Screen Project

Mika Kleinschmidt is going back to her theater roots for her next major project.

Last month, the HGTV star announced that she will take to the stage in Eight O’Clock Theatre’s production of the musical Come From Away. “Thrilled to be going back to live theater and performing on stage with these wonderful people,” she wrote alongside the show’s cast list in a June 26 Facebook post. “Looking forward to starting our journey together and telling this beautiful story. Tickets available starting 6/29.”

According to the cast list, Kleinschmidt will take on the role of Hannah and “others.” Come From Away, which debuted on Broadway back in 2017, tells the story of travelers whose flights were grounded in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and the Newfoundland residents who welcomed them into their Canadian community.

On Friday, July 17, Kleinschmidt took to Instagram to share several behind-the-scenes photos from rehearsals. “Working on a different type of show right now that I cannot wait to share!!! It’s exactly what my soul needs,” she wrote. “See you on the Rock! @eightoclocktheatre Ticket info in bio!”

The post featured several snaps of the cast reading the script and rehearsing songs, as well as many selfies Kleinschmidt snapped in the rehearsal room.

Fans shared their excitement for the show in the post’s comments, with one user writing, “This show is great!! We just saw it in Phx, and my HS Theater teacher was in the show!! Have fun!! It is such a cool show, and a heartwarming message.” Another added, “Love that show!!! We saw it on Broadway, and I totally laughed and cried and loved it all! Which part do you have? We’ll come watch!!”

Someone else shared, “Best, most important piece of theatre of our generation. My absolute favorite of all productions.” A different person posted, “I’ve been saying theatre needs Mika. Wish I could come!!” A separate commenter gushed, “One of my favorite shows!! So inspirational! You will be great!!”

Mika has been an HGTV staple since her and her husband Brian Kleinschmidt‘s flagship series, 100 Day Dream Home, debuted in 2020. The couple has gone on to appear on shows such as Home Town Kickstart, Rock the Block, Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge, and House Hunters: All Stars, as well as launched the spinoff 100 Day Hotel Challenge in 2024. The duo will also appear as judges on the upcoming series Totally 90s House, which premieres on Wednesday, August 26.

Most recently, Mika starred as a mentor on Season 5 of Battle on the Beach, which concluded on July 13. She teamed up with husband-and-wife duo Josiah and Anna Julian to transform a run-down beach house into a dream rental property. Despite their hard work over seven weeks of competition, Team Mika ultimately lost to mentor Ty Pennington and his teammates, Michelle Mueller and Sydney Lorence.

“Anna and Josiah are so talented, and they’re just getting started. So, this is the beginning of the Mariners’ story. It’s not the end,” Mika said in a season finale confessional.
